April showers might bring May flowers in the United Kingdom, but that only begs the question: What does Springtime look like around the World? The fact of the matter, is that Spring looks different country to country, as different regions have their own climate, landscape, seasonal changes and (of course) cultures. While we’ve covered the Spookiest Places to Travel for Halloween, previously – Here are some examples of what spring can look like in different countries:
Japan in Springtime
Japanese cherry blossoms, which come highly anticipated, mark the spring spring each year. Known as sakura, the phenomina occurs in late March or early April, and is celebrated with picnics and parties under the blooming trees.
Netherlands in Springtime
As widely familiar and sought after as the Japanese cherry blossoms, tulips reign over the Netherlands in spring. Keukenhof Gardens in Lisse, just outside of Amsterdam, is one of the most famous places to see tulips in bloom. The tulip season typically runs from late March to mid-May, and attracts visitors from Netherlands, as well as the rest of the world.
United States in Springtime
In the United States, spring is a time of renewal and growth, as trees and flowers begin to bloom after the winter months. Likewise, it is common to see daffodils, tulips, and cherry blossoms in many parts of the country. The season ushers in Easter celebrations, as well, with egg hunts and parades.
India in Springtime
In India, spring marks the arrival of the Holi festival. Aptly titled “festival of colors”, this lively celebration involves throwing colored powders and water at one another, and is a time for forgiveness, new beginnings, and the arrival of spring.
Australian Spring
In Australia, spring brings warmer temperatures and the return of outdoor activities like picnics, barbecues, and hiking. The Spring racing carnival, which is host to horse racing, fashion, and socializing, takes place in Spring as well.
Canada in Springtime
In Canada, spring is a time of transition as the snow melts and temperatures begin to rise. It is common to see maple trees starting to bud and birds returning from their winter migration. The season also brings about the Maple Syrup Festival, which celebrates the harvesting of maple syrup.
Spain in Springtime
In Spain, spring is the time for Semana Santa, or Holy Week, which is celebrated in the week leading up to Easter Sunday. This religious holiday is marked by processions, parades, as well as other ceremonies, and is observed throughout the country.
South Africa in Springtime
In South Africa, spring marks the start of the wildflower season, which is a natural phenomenon that occurs in the Western Cape region. During this time, the landscape is covered in a carpet of colorful wildflowers, attracting visitors from around the world.
Sweden’s Valborgsmässoafton festival
The Valborgsmässoafton festival marks the arrival of Spring in Sweden. Celebrated on the last day of April, this festival, also known as Walpurgis Night, is a time for bonfires, singing, and celebrating the arrival of spring.
Argentina Festivities in Spring
In Argentina, spring is the time for the National Grape Harvest Festival. Celebrating the grape harvest season, this festival takes place in the Mendoza region. It includes cultural events, such as wine tastings, parades and more.
Spring is marked by so many different events, celebrations and scenery depending on where you are to enjoy them. The bottom line, though, is that you can find a bit of “Spring Fever”, regardless of where you are.
